What to wear to your Family Session


You found a date that everyone is free, booked the session and now you also have to figure out what to wear!? Just the thought of it can deter people from getting the photo taken. But let me just say that any photo together marking this moment in time with the people you love is better than none. Here are some tips and inspiration that can help.

Start with YOU!


99% of the time it is the Mom that has done all the legwork to book the session and will also coordinate the outfits. That's no easy task whether you have one child or six! You may have to shop, try on, order, return, reorder for everyone. Where do you even begin? The answer is: WITH YOURSELF!


Find something in your closet or buy something that you absolutely love and build everyone off of that outfit. You do a lot for your family, you'll like be in the middle of most of the shots and you deserve it. When you wear something that makes you feel good, you will look good. It will shine through!

A Pop of Color


People often gravitate towards neutral colors. It's easy and safe. My suggestion to you is to add a pop of color. A pop of color can transform and brighten the entire image.

Color Schemes


Find colors that look good on people in your family and lay them next each other. If you don't have the outfits in person, make a collage with some screenshots right on your phone. Do not avoid patterns. Patterns add interest to the photo. If you have 4 people, make sure at least one has a pattern. If you have 5 or more people, 2-3 people could wear a pattern.


Also, vary what you wear on the bottom. Having 2-3 different types of bottoms helps define who is who in a photo where you're all piled together. Jeans, khakis, dresses, skirts, and leggings. There are lots of options you might already have in your closet.
